Whether you are looking to cover up mold damage or soot stains from a previous fire, here are some tips to guide you when you want to repaint your attic this fall.
Prepare to Use Primer
Primer is more valuable than you might think at first glance. That’s because it can make your paint perform better once it has adhered to the walls in your attic. Adding colors to any room is always the most fun part of the process, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should hurry it along. You’ll find the best results when you prime attic walls to account for the presence of drywall or plain wood.
Only Pick One Color
Choose one color and stick with it. The walls of your attic are going to be the most unusually-shaped; as a result, you might be tempted to use complementary colors to make the angles more visually appealing. We caution against this as a single color can open up the storage space and make it feel bigger.
Try Using Lighter Colors
Another suggestion is to consider what colors are currently being used up there. Lighter shades can actually reduce the claustrophobic feeling you often get unless you are lucky enough to have a finished attic that is much more comfortable than its average counterpart. White paint will be your best bet, but you can also experiment with pastels such as green, yellow, peach, and light blue. Yellow, orange, and pink can imbue the walls and floors with the glow of an early sunrise as well.

At the end of the day, you will want to finish your painting project with a flourish. That’s why you’ve got to finish strong – in this case, find the right finish formula for the paints you want to use. By doing this, you can guide how the light bounces around – simultaneously illuminating everything while hiding flaws you would rather downplay.
