What You Should Know About Wall Coverings

What You Should Know About Wallcoverings

Wall coverings are an excellent option for home and business owners!

Your wall coverings should serve two purposes — they should be beautiful and long-lasting. Whether it’s made from vinyl or natural textiles, they’ll enhance a room with charm and protection. Before you make any decisions and to ensure that you’re getting the most from your products, here’s what you should know about wall coverings.

Selection

The typical design cycle is eight years, as styles and trends continue to change over the years. Therefore, be prepared to plan for when you’ll be removing your current selection. This means using a robust acrylic primer. When you’re choosing your wall coverings, also go with ones that use a woven backed or Osnaburg backing and use a strippable adhesive system to save yourself some time and energy. You should also consider where you’ll be installing your wall coverings. In medium traffic areas, they offer many advantages, but more considerations should be taken for higher traffic areas. Heavy traffic areas require more durability. Therefore, be mindful of the relationship between the ink and the film colors. Do your best to keep those colors as close as possible to mask anticipated and likely damage. Be careful to avoid linear embosses as they tend to highlight damage from scrapes and other abrasions. In these high traffic areas, you’ll benefit from using a topcoat for better protection.

Installation

It is a good idea to work with a professional team. Ask for recommendations and do your homework to find a team that will ensure a quality installation. You can also consult the Wallcovering Installers Association for more information. If you have current wall coverings that need to be removed, ask if they provide that service as well, and any other repairs that need to be made. Be sure that the team uses those elements that we’ve previously discussed, including the primer and strippable adhesive. Also, be sure to ask if they provide a labor warranty to cover the work. Next is to ensure that you have a system for organizing your attic stock, which should include proper labeling.
