3 Helpful Tips for Maintaining Your Home's Interior Paint Job

It’s important to take care of your interior paint job once you’ve completed it to get the maximum life out of your new look.

Painting is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to completely change a space’s look. Repainting the walls of a room can make it look brand new. And while a new home paint job can be a relatively quick, cheap, and easy home improvement project, painting does take time and skill. It’s important to take care of the paint job once you’ve done painting to get the maximum life out of your new look. Read on for some helpful tips for applying and maintaining your home’s interior paint job to get the maximum life from your work.

Get It Right From The Start

When painting, it’s essential to use the proper materials and tools and apply the correct processes. Don’t rush in and start painting over the old color. Choose quality, long-lasting paint that will stand up to bumps and nicks. You should also make sure the surface of your wall is clean and sanded, and apply at least one coat of primer. Check the weather conditions for painting before starting, and let the room fully dry and cure before moving stuff back in.

Perform Regular Maintenance

Once you’ve completed your painting project correctly, you have a solid foundation to build on. Make sure you’re doing the work of cleaning and maintaining those beautiful walls so that you have them for as long as you want them. Dust the walls as part of your routine cleaning, especially any accumulated cobwebs. If you use a dry Swiffer on your floors, you can use that on the walls. In high-traffic areas that get touched a lot, clean the walls just like you clean your floors. Don’t just scrub the spots that pop up when muddy kids bounce down the hall – make it part of your seasonal deep clean to clean the whole wall.

Be Ready to Touch-Up

If you notice any damage while cleaning the walls, repair it as soon as possible, so it doesn’t become a bigger problem. Keeping the paint on hand after you’re done painting allows you to quickly and easily touch-up nicks and scraps.
